Dark ruby in the glass, this wine expresses beautiful notes of ripe forest fruit, blackberry and cherry on the nose. On the palate, it is fresh, pulpy and pleasantly savoury. The soft tannins provide structure and there is a long, balsamic finish.
The 2019 vintage began with rain throughout the autumn, when a year's worth of rain fell in the space of a few months. The sandy soil meant the roots avoided waterlogging, while the rain also replenished deep-lying water reserves. In spring, temperatures were below the seasonal average and this, along with rain during reduced fruit set. Summer was relatively cool, meaning the growing season and ripening phase were long, and this allowed the grapes to develop slowly and in excellent health with no instances of hydric stress. In summary, yields were 22% lower than usual but quality was high.
