Šakotis is a traditional Lithuanian treat known as ‘tree cake’ because its shape resembles that of a tree with many branches. It is common to have Šakotis on the tables during big celebrations- Weddings, Christmas, and Easter. This dessert is a Lithuanian national culinary heritage product.
No doubt Šakotis is a Symbol of Lithuania.
The main ingredients of the cake are eggs, sugar, cream, and flour. It’s the baking process that makes this treat so special: the dough is poured on a roller which is above the fire or a stove. The roller is turned to form little horns. Then again a layer is poured and again it has to be baked until the layer becomes golden. This process is repeated many times.
