Chateau Tour de Capet, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2014 | 75clAdd review
Grape Varieties: 80% Merlot , 20% Cabernet Franc
Region: Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux
Closure: Double Disk
Saint Emilion Grand Cru with 12 hectares of vines in an excellent position. The ripe, full-flavoured wine is exceptional value, packed with mouth-filling dark plum fruit and hints of toast.
This wine is intense purple in colour, with aromas of dark berries, tobacco and mint with hints of spice and vanilla. On the palate, it is full bodied with soft, velvety tannins and a long, juicy finish.
2013 was a poor vintage across much of Bordeaux, beset by uneven ripening and dilution due to heavy rainfall and low temperatures. To avoid crop loss due to rot, picking began relatively early. Wines are considerably lighter in style and alcohol – a nice respite from some of the heavy 15% alcohol wines of recent vintages. Harvest took place over three days from the 28th September and despite the poor vintage conditions, Saint-Émilion wines faired well and are considered to be some the best of Bordeaux in 2013.
